Who Are You?

When you introduce yourself, what do you say first — and what does that say about you?

Most of us lead with a job title, a role, or a label. “I’m a [job].” “I’m a parent.” “I’m a partner/sibling/friend.” These things matter, of course. They shape how we move through the world. But they are not the whole of us.

Identity is the essence of who we are beneath the hats we wear. It is not simply a job title or a social role. It is the core of us — our values, the beliefs we hold, the passions that guide us, and the way we show up when no one is watching.

When we pause and reflect, we realise that our worth is not in what we do, but in who we are at our core.

We are more than a job title, yet that is often how people define themselves and how they introduce themselves. I want to invite you to consider something quietly radical: your identity and your personality are not fixed. They can, and will, change. They are labels — useful, sometimes limiting, always incomplete. You are a unique and whole person, not just a title.

Even your “I am” statements can be rewritten.

This may sound a little heavy, but I offer it only as a reflection.

Here are two quotes to sit with. Choose the one that lands more strongly for you:

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
— Oscar Wilde

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
— Aristotle

I lean toward Aristotle these days. The more I have come to understand myself, the more capacity I have for self-compassion — and the more understanding I can offer others. In the rush of everyday life, that can feel like a rare and valuable thing.

If you have been following my work for a while, you will know I love to leave you with a few prompts. Here are two to sit with:

  1. If you weren’t defined by your job or your roles, who would you say you are?
  2. When was the last time you felt truly aligned with what you were doing, and what was that moment about?

The work I do with clients around identity is deeply personal to me. For a long time I was lost in the roles I played, driven more by expectation than by purpose. It was only when I began to explore my own identity — through self-development and honest reflection — that a real shift happened. I started becoming who I am here to be.

Now, as a coach, I guide others on that same journey: helping them uncover their true identity so they can step into a life that feels more aligned.

If you’re ready to explore who you are and what’s next for you, I’d love to hear from you. I currently have space for new 1:1 clients. This is simply an invitation to have a conversation and explore what support might look like. Just reach out, and we can arrange a time to chat.

And if this piece has sparked something in you — if you’re beginning to question who you are beyond the roles you’ve been playing — I’d also like to invite you to join the waitlist for my upcoming Identity Programme, Become Who You Are Here To Be.

This is a self-development experience designed for anyone ready to reconnect with who they truly are, build steadier confidence, and create a life that feels deeply aligned with their values, purpose, and potential.

Those on the waitlist will be the first to hear when doors open, and will also receive an invitation to a free Identity Workshop that goes a little deeper into how we see ourselves — and why others might see us differently.

Wherever you are in this process, you don’t have to figure it all out at once.

One honest question at a time is enough.
